The Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania (DRN) has a Benefits Counseling Program, which operates in Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania.

Our primary objective is to promote employment and enhance self-sufficiency. The services are designed to help persons who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) due to a disability, who are at least age 14, but not yet full retirement age , and who are interested in employment. Our services help persons to understand Social Security’s employment supports under the SSDI/SSI programs and all the work incentives available. A summary of Social Security’s employment supports can be found in the Red Book

Our program helps persons understand how earnings will affect their benefits and assists persons in making informed choices about their options for training and work. Services are provided to eligible individuals and their support persons. Services are completely voluntary, confidential, and free of charge.

Our services assist and educate eligible beneficiaries who want to know:

  • How work will affect their cash and health benefits

  • What work incentives are available

  • How to access appropriate employment supports

  • Additional services/resources available to help reach your employment goal

  • How to obtain assistance with potential problems which employment may have upon their federal, state and local benefits

  • The tools and knowledge to manage your own benefits

Our program does not make any determinations about a beneficiary’s benefits. The Social Security Administration and the other agencies who administer the beneficiary’s benefits are the ones who make determinations.
