Alert: Contact DRN If You Have Been Informed That the Waiver will Deny or Reduce Services or Supplies

June 27th, 2007

Alert from the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania

The Department of Public Welfare's Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) issued a Bulletin effective July 1, 2007 concerning the availability of certain services under the Consolidated Waiver. Apparently as a result of this Bulletin, counties have begun to deny, reduce, or terminate certain services. We currently know that:

1. Counties have notified individuals in the Consolidated Waiver who receive habilitation supplies (which include diapers, physician-ordered dietary supplements, and latex gloves) that they are no longer entitled to receive these services effective June 30, 2007.

2. Counties have begun to notify individuals in the Consolidated Waiver who have received 30 days of overnight respite per year that they are only entitled to 28 days per year.

In addition, the Bulletin may impact Waiver recipients who need certain types of elevating systems or environmental control modifications prescribed by a physician (such as an air conditioner) in their homes.

If you have been informed that the Waiver will no longer cover habilitation supplies or that you are not entitled to more than 28 days of overnight respite or that recent changes mean that you are not entitled to some other service that you have been receiving or requested, please contact us at [email protected].
