ADAPT ALERT: Community Choice - Act NOW!
ADAPT ALERT: Community Choice - Act NOW!
The Community Choice Act would establish community-based services in all states across the US, reforming Medicaid and ending the institutional bias that forces hundreds of thousands of people with disabilities in nursing facilities and other institutions. Despite the Supreme Court's Olmstead decision, which affirmed that people with disabilities have a right to live in the community, the Senate and House of Representatives have yet to have hearings on the Community Choice Act.When ADAPT was in Washington, DC, in early May, Senator Max Baucus gave his commitment that the Senate Finance Committee would hold a hearing on the Community Choice Act in late July. So far, nothing has been scheduled!
Advocates from across the country are faxing Senator Baucus to thank him for his commitment and asking for the hearing to be scheduled. You can fax the Senator from the internet by going to this link: http://capwiz.com/rochestercdr/issues/alert/?alertid=9958786&type=CU&sh
