Alert Regarding Home Health Services from DRN

July 31st, 2007

Home health services include nursing services; home health aide services; physical therapy; occupational therapy; speech pathology and audiology services; and medical supplies, equipment, and appliances suitable for use in the home.

You no longer have to be homebound to get home health services through Medical Assistance (ACCESS, ACCESS Plus, Medical Assistance managed care health plan). The revised Pennsylvania regulations can be found at 55 Pa. Code Chapter 1249: http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/055/chapter1249/chap1249toc.html.

For the first 28 days, you can get an unlimited number of home health visits. After the first 28 days, the number of visits per month is limited to what is on the Medical Assistance fee schedule. Your doctor can request a program exception to get more visits per month, if needed. Ask your doctor about requesting a program exception if you think that you need more visits than those specified on the fee schedule.

If you need advice or technical assistance, please contact the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania at 1-800-692-7443 (voice) or 1-877-375-7139 (TTY).
