Adult Community Autism Program (ACAP): Change in ACAP Eligibility Requirements

Adult Community Autism Program (ACAP): Change in ACAP Eligibility Requirements

July 30th, 2009

One of the eligibility requirements for the Adult Community Autism Program (ACAP) stated:

"To be eligible for ACAP a person must, "Not be enrolled in a Medical Assistance home and community based waiver program at the time of application in ACAP".

This requirement has caused concerns for individuals and families as it required them to disenroll from one program without any guarantee of enrollment in ACAP. Understanding this concern, the Bureau of Autism Services has changed this requirement.

The eligibility requirement has been revised, and now states:

"To be eligible for ACAP a person must, "Not be enrolled in a Medical Assistance home and community based waiver program at the time of enrollment in ACAP".

This change in eligibility requirements will allow individuals and families to continue receiving support while moving through the ACAP enrollment process. It is important to note, however, an individual can not receive services from two Medical Assistance home and community based programs at the same time. Therefore, an individual will still be required to disenroll from their current home and community based service program before receiving any services under the ACAP program.
