The Department of Justice Publishes First Major Revisions to ADA Regulations

October 26th, 2010
Friends --

The Department of Justice has published the first major revisions to its ADA regulations in nearly 18 years. These changes, for the most part, go into effect in March 2011.

The changes affect state and local governments and public accommodations, such as restaurants, museums, stores, and other businesses that are open to the public. The changes govern a range of issues, including service animals, ticketing for public events, such as concerts and sporting events, reservations at hotels and similar accommodations, and prisons and other correctional facilities. In addition, new accessibility standards will go into effect shortly that will govern buildings and facilities operated by these types of entities and businesses.

The Disability Rights Network has prepared a Fact Sheet summarizing the significant changes in the regulations and accessibility standards. To obtain a copy of the Fact Sheet, visit the publications page of our web site at --
