Training Seminars on Special Education Law

Training Seminars on Special Education Law

March 21st, 2011
Friends -

I write to let you know about a series of training seminars on special education law to help parents, lawyers, advocates, educators and others become more informed of students' rights and better able to help get them the best educations possible. We think of these training sessions as an important part of our strategy for helping students with disabilities in Philadelphia, because they 1) help maintain an active and knowledgeable advocacy community and 2) help us connect with people who are directly involved in these matters.

Our next session is Tuesday, March 22nd, from 12-4pm, and it's on "Dyslexia and Other Learning Disabilities: Identification and Services." It will cover matters such as how the IDEA defines dyslexia and other specific learning disabilities, identification requirements under the IDEA, what the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment of 2009 means for children with dyslexia and other specific learning disabilities, and services for children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. For more information and to register, go to: http://pilcoptraining8.eventbrite.com/.

There is a fee to attend these sessions that covers our costs and allows us to continue offering them, but scholarships are readily available. No one will be turned away because they cannot afford the fee, and those who need scholarships should email me at [email protected] for more information. Future sessions will cover transition plans, inclusive programming, how to do due process hearings, and assistive technology. The full schedule can be found here:
