Staff Attorney - Pittsburgh Office

The Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania (DRN) seeks a staff attorney to work in its Pittsburgh office on legal issues affecting adults and children with mental illness, including preventing abuse, neglect, discrimination and unnecessary institutionalization, and ensuring access to appropriate physical and behavioral health services, special education, and other community-based services. This is a two-year position that will involve individual and systemic litigation, as well as other advocacy strategies.

DRN is the federally-mandated protection and advocacy organization in Pennsylvania. Its mission is to advance, protect, and advocate for the human, civil and legal rights of persons with disabilities. DRN uses a wide range of strategies designed to benefit persons with disabilities, including impact litigation, individual case assistance, publications, coalition building, policy advocacy, and training and technical assistance. Applicants should have five or more years' experience and possess excellent communication and litigation skills. Experience specific to the rights of individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required. Minority candidates and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Community Advocate

The Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania (DRN) is looking for an experienced advocate to fill the position of Western Region Community Advocate.

DRN is a federally-mandated protection and advocacy organization in Pennsylvania. Its mission is to advance, protect and advocate for the human, civil and legal rights of persons with disabilities. For more information about DRN, visit www.drnpa.org.

A Bachelor's Degree is preferred but at least 5 years of advocacy experience is a must. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about people with Developmental Disabilities, have a working knowledge of state and federal disability laws and regulations as well as extensive knowledge of the Office of Developmental Program's waiver services.

Applicants should be self-advocate/consumer focused with a philosopy that supports community integration and self-determination. The successful applicant will be able to work as part of a team but also independently. Applicants must have demonstrated computer skills,  be able to meet deadlines and complete reports in an acceptable fashion. Extensive travel in the western part of the state is required.
